Chanclos to Cumberland: Ostend can withstand a siege if the present garrison consisting of three battalions is reinforced. Additional cannon, mortars etc. are indispensible. As there are no trees around Ostend, wood for defences must be sent from England, along with all the provisions, even bedding straw. ff. 214, 215 |
