Description: |
Marlborough to Harley: the king of Spain [Charles III] has been slow in advancing on Madrid, which has encouraged the duke of Anjou [Philip V of Spain] to make a stand 42 miles from the city. The marquis de Blanzac's pass has been extended. The trenches have not yet been opened at Menin. Prince Eugene has crossed the Po and the French are retreating, which means that they may have to draw troops from the siege of Turin. Lord Halifax is leaving for The Hague.
