The Lord President of the Council's Committee was set up in 1940. It had a number of sub-committees covering various issues of domestic policy. It was abolished in October 1951 by the incoming Conservative government. Its work was transferred to the Home Affairs Committee, appointed in November 1951 and chaired by the Lord President. A number of sub-committees of the Lord President's Committee continued in existence under the Home Affairs Committee; they included the Natural Resources (Technical) Committee, Advisory Council on Scientific Policy and Committee on Overseas Scientific Relations. At the time of the change, the Lord President also became 'Co-ordinating Minister' for Food and Agriculture, and retained responsibility for Privy Council Research Committees. |
