Administrative / biographical background:

The Military Engineering Experimental Establishment (MEXE) was first established as a research unit within the Ministry of Supply in 1946 and was later transferred to the War Office in 1959. MEXE was amalgamated with the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment as the Military Vehicles and Engineering Establishment (MVEE) in 1970. In 2021, MEXE was re-established as an independent not-for-profit company with the aim of supporting the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence and its agencies, as well as other government departments through its research.
