Administrative / biographical background: |
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) was formed in February 2023 alongside the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) following the dissolution of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) after a cabinet reshuffle. DBT inherited remits from BEIS and from one of BEIS's predecessors, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), as well as from the Department for International Trade (DIT) and its predecessor UK Trade and Investment (UKTI). DBT is responsible for supporting business growth, protecting consumers, promoting free trade, ensuring markets are competitive and expanded, securing investments and promoting economic security and resilience in supply chains. |
