Administrative / biographical background: |
The United Nations (Economic and Social) Department of the Foreign Office and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office handled the United Kingdom's relations with the various economic and social agencies of the United Nations. In 1973 the United Nations (Political) and the United Nations (Economic and Social) Departments were merged as a single United Nations Department. Each branch of the new department continued using its existing registered file series for files created in 1974 and 1975, but in 1976 a new file series (UN) was created and both political and economic and social subject files are added to FCO 58 from that point onwards. |
