Description:

Files of the Training and Education (TE) Division of the Treasury. They relate to training and career development within the Civil Service, including organisation and conduct of the Central Administrative College, sabbatical leave and secondment, training advice for other departments, house journals and the Civil Servants' Guide.

Also includes files of the E series (T 162) which were re-registered as part of the TE series in 1948.

Custodial history: Most files appear to have been transferred to Civil Service Department on its creation in 1968, and on its abolition in 1981, to the Management and Personnel Office, which formed part of the Cabinet Office, and was later renamed the Office of Public Service.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Training and Education (TE) Division was established in 1945, bringing together staff who had formerly worked in this area under the Director of Training and Education. The division continued to work in close association with other establishment divisions.

The Civil Service Department took over the responsibilities of this Division in November 1968 when all files created after 1963 passed to it.
