Administrative / biographical background:

The England Rural Development Programme (ERDP) (2000-2006) was a programme of activities designed to contribute to the delivery of the Government’s Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food by helping farmers and foresters to respond better to consumer requirements and become more competitive, diverse, flexible and environmentally responsible.

The ERDPIT Programme was set up in 2001 to monitor the development and implementation of the new Genesis IT system used to process customer applications for Environmental Stewardship schemes (ELS and HLS). The programme was responsible for ensuring that the development of Genesis was completed within EU deadlines for administering Environmental Stewardship scheme payments to farmers. The programme was managed by the Rural Development Service (RDS) until October 2006 when this was merged with other public bodies to form Natural England.
