Sir Edward Herbert, later the first Lord Herbert of Cherbury, was ambassador to France during two separate periods. His first period as ambassador began in May 1619 and ended in July 1621 when he was recalled for quarreling with King Louis XIII's favourite De Luynes. He returned as ambassador, in February 1622, not long after De Luynes' death, and remained in this office until April 1624 when he was dismissed for quarreling with James I over marriage negotiations between Prince Charles and Princess Henrietta Maria. |
