| History: | Sir Thomas Edmondes, English diplomat, owed his advancement to Sir Robert Cecil. He was English agent to Henri IV at Paris several times in the 1590s; and he was resident English ambassador to the court of Archduke Albert and Archduchess Isabella of the Spanish Netherlands at Brussels from November 1604 to September 1609. He was then ambassador ordinary to the court of France between 1610 and 1617. A loyal crown servant, he was rewarded with prestigious posts and served in all the Stuart parliaments of the 1620s. |
