  • Rosa Morison House of Recovery (Formerly known as)
Date: 1912-1953
History: Rosa Morison was Lady Superintendent of Women Students of University College, London from 1883 to her death in 1912. In her will she bequested her house in Gloucester Road East, later 83 Gloucester Road, in New Barnet to the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital. In 1913 the Rosa Morison House of Recovery was opened as a pre-covalescent unit for patients of the hospital. In 1929 the house had a matron and five nurses for 28 beds.

Following the creation of the National Health Service in 1948 it remained part of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital, being managed by the Royal Free Hospital No. 3 Teaching Management Committee in the London Hospital Board. In 1962 it was transferred, with the hospital, to the Northern Group Hospital Management Committee (in 1963 the North London Group HMC) within the North West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board. In 1972 the link with the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital was broken, as it passed to the Barnet Group Hospital Management Committee. It became a day hospital for the mentally handicapped. In 1986 it was taken over by Barnet Borough Council and became the Rosa Morison Day Opportunities Service Centre, offering support to adults with learning disabilities. The original building was demolished and new premises erected at 85 Gloucester Road in 2007.
