History:	The Ingilby family owned Ripley in the West Riding of Yorkshire by the mid 14th century. In 1398 John Ingilby was associated with the foundation of the Carthusian monastery of Mount Grace in the North Riding. During the reign of Elizabeth I, family lands in the North Riding were disposed of and further West Riding properties, including Dacre and North Deighton, were subsequently bought. Lincolnshire estates (Harrington and Kettlethorpe) were gained through the marriage of Sir John Ingilby (d. 1815) to Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Wharton Amcotts, 1st baronet, of Kettlethorpe (d. 1807). Kettlethorpe passed at the death in 1854 of Sir William Amcotts-Ingilby into the possession of his sister Augusta and her husband Robert Cracroft of Hackthorn, Lincolnshire. The former Amcotts estate of Washingborough (Lincolnshire), which had passed to th Buckworth family, was acquired by the Ingilbys in the early 19th century and sold in 1840. Estates in 1883: 10,609 acres in the West Riding of Yorkshire; 1,271 acres in Lincolnshire; worth a total of £13,538 a year.
